In this Silhouette Studio^® tutorial, we will create a simple Back to School greeting card. This print and cut card will be 4.5 x 6 inches. For the front of the card, we will use a free photo from Unsplash.com and add the Back to School text.

1. Open Silhouette Studio and click the Design tab to open the workspace.


2. From the Menu bar, click File - New Project Wizard.


3. In the Popup window, select the Card option.


4. In the Page Setup panel, set the Media Size to Letter and the Orientation to Portrait. (see screenshot)


5. In the Print and Cut panel, turn on the Registration Marks and keep the default settings.


6. Select the Cut line. In the Transform panel, Rotate to 90 degrees. Set the Width to 9 inches and the Height to 6 inches. Center the Cut line. (see screenshot)

Now we will add the photo to the front of the card.


7. From the Menu bar, click File - Merge.


8. Select the photo. In the Transform panel, set the Width to 6 inches and the Height to 4.5 inches.


9. Position the photo over the front of the card. (see screenshot)

Now we will add the Back to School text.


10. Select the Text tool. In the Text Style panel, set the Font to Noteworthy and the Size to 48 pts. (see screenshot)


11. In a blank area, add the text Back to School. Select all of the text.


12. In the Fill panel, set the Fill color to Black.


13. Position the text on the front of the card above the pencils. (see screenshot)

Now we will print and cut the card.


14. From the Menu bar, click Print. When the Print window opens, click Print.


15. Transfer the print to the cutting mat and place it in the cutting machine.


16. Open the Send panel and notice that the text has a red outline indicating that it will be cut.


17. Select the Cut by Line option. Turn off the text outline (bottom in the list). (see screenshot)


18. Click Send, to send the cut job to the machine.
